Labor Day Weekend

For the past nine, maybe ten years, we have had a tried and true tradition of going to the Blackfoot Fair with Grandma and Grandpa Stoddard over Labor Day weekend. This year Robert felt that he needed to stay home and fulfil some church responsibilities instead. After tears were shed at the breakfast table over the news, we made some alternative plans.

On Friday night we headed out to Thanksgiving Point. We visited Farm Country and the Children's Garden. There was hardly anyone there. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. We saw the animals, took a pony ride, and let the kids roam free. That allowed Robert and I to have some of that parental quiet time that always seems to be in such short supply! It was a very relaxing evening. The kids loved the lighthouse, climbing on the rocks and going in the mazes. They made up a song about a caterpillar and performed it for us. I wish the batteries on our camera had not run out so we could have filmed them. We stayed until the sun went down and the mosquitos started biting. When we went to leave the gates were locked, so we had to jump the fence to get to the van. I would have never guessed it would be that easy to sleep over at Thanksgiving Point!

On Saturday, we stayed home the first part of the day. There is an area on the side of our house where we wanted to plant grass so Robert was able to do that. Gehrig went to a friend's birthday party and when he got home we went shopping. Later that night we got a baby sitter and Sophie, Robert and I went on a date to see Ironman (I know we are terribly behind). As we were coming home from the movies we could see all kinds of lightning off to the west. And late that night a good storm hit. I LOVE a good storm!

Sunday, we went to church and then went to Mark and Regina's for dinner. We had a great time. The kids always love playing there and it was fun to meet some of their friends. Besides, I love it when someone makes Sunday dinner for me. :) As we sat out in their yard, more dark clouds rolled in. We could feel the temperature drop and we ended up with more pounding rain Sunday night too!

Monday morning the rain was still coming down with temperatures in the 50's. We slept in, then dressed in some cozy clothes and went to Magleby's Fresh for the all you can eat french toast. The place was packed, but we got a table pretty easy and had a yummy breakfast. For the rest of the day, we shopped and amazingly enough everyone was happy about it! Then we went home and had a yummy dinner together. In all, it was a very enjoyable weekend. We were sad to miss out on the fair, but were able to enjoy some good RELAXING quaility time together anyway. (I am so glad we didn't miss out on the rain!) Hopefully next year we will be at the fair, enjoying Grandma and Grandpa's company, eating fair food and seeing the sights.
