Beginning With Good-bye

For the past two years, Gehrig has the best primary teacher.  Her name is Marsha Lima.  She inspired and excited the kids in her class about the gospel and especially the scriptures.  She encouraged them to memorize as many scriptures as they could and she taught them to understand each one and why it was important.  After memorizing each scripture, she gave them a card with that scripture on it that they could keep on a ring.  She let them pick their favorite scripture picture to use as a cover for those cards and gave them an iron rod key chain charm to put on it too.  She also gave them mustard seeds as she taught them about faith and sand dollars as another object lesson.  During the summer she planned a "field trip" to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building to watch Joseph Smith:  The Prophet of the Restoration and helped them organize a service project; making sack lunches for the Food and Care Coalition.  All of these things have really made an impression on Gehrig and the other kids in class.  They love Sister Lima and Sister Lima loves them!  When they found out that they would have to leave her class and give other children the opportunity to be blessed by Sister Lima's ways, they wanted to throw a surprise party for her to say thank you for all she had done.  We had the party at our house.  The kids made a banner that said, "We'll Miss You Sister Lima!"  And there were balloons and games. All in all, everyone felt the love, and we can't be too sad, because Emma is one of the lucky kids who gets to be in her class next!
